Travel Motors
Hydraulic motor assemblies for when the gearbox is sound and only the motor needs replacing.
Know the part before you order.
When the planetary side of a drive is undamaged, replacing the hydraulic motor alone is far cheaper than a complete unit. It only works if the replacement matches displacement, port layout and brake configuration exactly.

Before you buy one
Motor, or the complete drive?
DYCO sells travel motors on their own and gearbox-only units — worth something only if you know which half has gone. The two fail differently and run in separate oil, which is what makes the question answerable.
The two halves run in separate oil
The planetary gear set has its own sealed volume of gear oil. The motor runs on the machine’s hydraulic circuit.
Draining both tells you more than any amount of looking at the outside. Bright flake in the gear oil implicates the gear set and its bearings. Debris in the hydraulic oil implicates the motor, or something else in the circuit. DYCO-TP-102 — Contact Fatigue, Pitting and Spalling in Planetary Gear Sets →
Internal leakage is the motor’s own failure
A worn rotating group leaks past itself rather than to the outside. Case drain flow, measured against the machine’s figure, is what separates it from a gearbox fault.
The machine tracks slowly, is weak under load, runs hot and will not hold on a gradient. Nothing external looks wrong, which is why this one gets misread. DYCO-TP-106 — Fluid Cleanliness and Component Life in Closed-Circuit Hydrostatic Drives →
The parking brake usually lives in the motor
Spring-applied wet multi-disc, held off by pressure. That makes a dragging brake a motor-side symptom rather than a gearbox one. It cooks the oil that is supposed to be carrying the heat away while it drags. DYCO-TP-108 — Spring-Applied Wet Multi-Disc Parking Brakes in Travel and Swing Drives →
Replacing only the motor? The gearbox decides the outcome
Bearings part-worn or a seal on its way out means doing the job twice, and the second time pays the labor again.
The unit is off the machine and open in front of you — the cheapest inspection you will ever get on it. DYCO-TP-104 — Rolling-Element Bearing Life in Travel and Swing Drives →
Check the interface, not only the two parts
The splined coupling between motor and gearbox, and the mounting face and its fasteners.
A worn spline will work a new motor’s shaft exactly the way it worked the last one. A joint that was loose before will not tighten itself around new metal. DYCO-TP-109 — Preload and Fatigue in Slewing Ring and Final Drive Bolted Joints →
What you fit, and what you fit it into
A motor destroyed by dirty oil will destroy its replacement unless the circuit is flushed and the filtration put right.
And a replacement is worth what it can be shown to be — dimensionally and metallurgically — rather than what the box says. DYCO-TP-110 — Dimensional and Metallurgical Verification of Replacement Drive Units →
None of this is a rule of thumb: each one is a mechanism, and the publication beside it sets out the engineering it rests on.
